Multiport offers special programming and procedures to convert all or part of the old system's data to the new system. Because each database is different, data conversion is tailored specifically to each situation. Existing data is not usually completely compatible with a new system. For example, data elements in the new system that do not exist in the old must be hand-entered or filled with some standard value. Our estimate of the fees related to data conversion depends on having accurate documentation of the old system's data files, the ability to convert special fields like packed data and related factors.
